Geo-Tourism

Geo-tourism will allow you to know the natural characteristics and natural sources of “La Comarca”, and guided tours to salt industries that have been placed in La Pampa and turned the province into the first salt producer of the country.

Prestigious trade marks, such as “Celusal” and “Dos Anclas”, commercialize salt to Jacinto Arauz” neighboring places.

Nature is the great scenery that this area offers. Before America had been discovered, native aborigines came to this zone (Salinas Grandes) in search of salt.

A famous lagoon is located a few kilometers away from Macachín.

Long caravans traveled several kilometers a year to look for the precious salt in the area.

The flatness is characterized by a lightly waved earth surface, it displays it amazing splendor from west to east and exhibits fan-shaped valleys.

Earth depression averages 100 kilometers long and from 5 to 10 kilometers wide, different levels oscillate between 40 to 100 meters high under sea level.

Wind erosion collected important quantities of sand that conformed picturesque hill chains of sharp peaks.

The lowest area is where salt settled building big hydrographical depressions without exits. Steam has accumulated salt crystals in the lowest zones until different layers were produced.

The south exhibits wavy and table lands that divide deep points from rising ones towards the salty area.

Vegetation is framed by the wild country which displays bushes, grown greenery and foliage and a splendorous wooded land.

From November to March, depending on the climate, harvesting takes place and companies produce salt mounds that reach 15 meters high. The rest of the year is devoted to the washing and industrialization of the product.

Before and after the harvesting, water becomes pink due to the presence of Artemia and different colonies of birds are commonly seen in the place.

These ordinary activities stamp in the zone a particular characteristic and landscapes.
