Mennonite Colony:
Mennonites come from Holland; they worship Simons Mennont (1496-1561).
They settled in Holland approximately between the years 1500-1800, after
having emigrated from Russia, far from VogaRiver since its river banks
were taken up by Catholic Germans and Protestant people.
They were secluded from the rest of the world and in the Ural Mountains
is where the mayor concentration of their community is found. Some decided
to emigrate to America and choose to settle in diverse countries: Mexico,
Canada, Paraguay, Brazil, Bolivia and Argentina.
The Mennonite community settled in Guatrache mainly came from Mexico and
Bolivia where they stayed for a long period of time. They settled in 1988
in La Pampa in lands that belonged to Remecó. Nowadays they constitute
a colony mainly dedicated to farming, but they also manufacture their own
clothes, cheese, furniture, typical riding carriages and run shops where
a great variety of articles may be found. All their products are handcrafts.
Church is their gathering place where they practice their own religion,
read the bible, sing church songs, eat and exchange ideas.
They celebrate Easter, holidays, Christmas, New Years Eve, and Epiphany.
